Associate Professor Tom Shakespeare

Tom shakespeare photoA/Prof Shakespeare is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists and is the Director and Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologist at the North Coast Cancer Institute Port Macquarie. He is also the Director of Cancer Services for the Northern NSW and Mid-North Coast Local Health Districts. He is a Conjoint Associate Professor at the University of NSW.

A/Prof Shakespeare has a particular subspecialist interest in managing prostate cancer and other urological malignancies, and is one of Australia’s leading prostate cancer specialists. Over the the last 7 years he has treated over 1000 patients with prostate cancer, using image-guided intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) for localised prostate cancer. He has presented his treatment results at oncology meetings in Australia, Europe and the United States. His most recent results were presented at the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO).

He has received a number of prizes for cancer research, and was awarded the New South Wales Premier’s Gold Public Service Award. He co-wrote the most recent Cancer Council Australia guidelines for localised and locally advanced prostate cancer, and was the inaugural chair of the NSW Cancer Institute National Radiotherapy Protocols Committee, co-writing the prostate cancer protocols. He is particularly passionate about quality care and patient involvement in decision-making.

Dr. Shakespeare bulk bills all patients.
